About Us

World Media One is very excited about launching ‘One World One Sport‘.  Right now is the perfect time to take this site live because yesterday, July 21, 2007, was David Beckham’s first game with the Los Angeles Galaxy.  The purpose of this site is similar to why Beckham said he came to play in the United States of America.  He felt that he could make soccer what it is in the rest of the world.  That is also the mission of this site.

It bothers me that the United States of America does not take soccer seriously.  It bothers me that we are the only country that does not call it football.  It bothers me that we create sports like Basketball or Snowboarding, and these sports become part of the Olympics and we win the gold medals in these events and act like we are doing something great when the rest of the world does not know how to play the game.  I would rather that we put our emphasis on the one sport that the whole world plays and is competitive about.  Let’s win a World Cup.

RonaldinhoIt bothers me when ESPN asks who is bigger between Kobe Bryant and Ronaldinho and they conclude that Kobe is.  This is why it is going to be so hard to bring this sport to the level of our main four.  Things are getting better in the U.S. because they created  the MLS.  Now they are even looking into adding a second New York team so they are starting to expand.  We tied Italy in the 2006 World Cup.  That is as legit of a match that we have ever played.

The Galaxy signed Beckham, and that is exciting.  I was very surprised to see how seriously the U.S. took Beckham’s arrival.  It was much grander than I would have ever imagined.  This helps make our league more legit.  One of the commentators from last night’s match said that U.S. soccer fans are really excited about Beckham’s arrival.  I do not think that he is here for the soccer fans, I think that he is here for the non-soccer fans.  Soccer fans would rather have a better player because we know there are much better players out there than Beckham.  Non-soccer fans need a glamorous Englishman with a wife that’s a Spice Girl to pay attention to a sport that they do not pay attention to.  Soccer fans in the U.S. will take what we can get.  Either way, I’m behind the strategy.

We, in the U.S., do not watch soccer because we do not have the best soccer players in the world.  Therefore, the children are not aspired to play soccer like they are like they are when they see Derek Jeter.  I hope that Beckham is only the first person of his magnitude to come play here.  Once we have the talent, our children will aspire to be Ronaldinho.  That’s when we will be able to win a World Cup.  That’s a generation away.

My goal is to make this site the largest soccer site in the world.  We would like to reach every country.  We would like to go multi-lingual.  We will constantly be looking into improving this site so keep checking back in.
